Director Raajhorshee De's Sada Ronger Prithibi Takes Flight with a Unique Tale of Empowerment
Renowned filmmaker Raajhorshee De embarks on his fifth cinematic endeavor, "Sada Ronger Prithibi," with an intriguing storyline that delves into the harrowing reality of widow trafficking in India. Departing from his recent ensemble cast ventures in "Abar Kanchenjunga" and "Mayaa," the director commences filming in the culturally rich city of Varanasi, featuring an impressive ensemble of 19 cast members.
The film, produced by Infinity Media World owned by Shrravonii Paul and Sushant Sengupta, along with Raajhorshee De's Michael Nagel Studio as co-producer, sheds light on the plight of widows, the crimes perpetrated against them, and the deeply ingrained customs restricting their lives. National Award Winner Sabarni Das and makeup artist Aniruddha Chakladar contribute their expertise to craft the characters' styles and looks.
Inspired by the alarming statistics from the National Crime Records Bureau, the narrative unfolds against the backdrop of Kashi, a sanctuary for many widows in India. Raajhorshee De, discussing the film's essence, emphasizes its exploration of women's empowerment within the realms of a spy thriller, marking a pioneering venture for Bengali cinema. Rwitobroto Mukherjee, portraying the character of Sunil, a Bengali settled in Varanasi, is paired opposite Sauraseni Maitra, adding depth to the film's compelling narrative. As the director delves into the urgent social issue, "Sada Ronger Prithibi" promises to be a thought-provoking and impactful cinematic experience.
